Veiled Lady Marble Statue

This stunning piece of artwork is based on a sculpture by Raphael Monti. The original was commissioned by the Duke of Devonshire in the 1840s, and now holds pride of place in the collection at Chatsworth House. The haunting and beautiful subject depicted is one of ancient Rome’s Vestal Virgins. They were a venerated group of priestesses whose task it was to ensure the safety of Rome by keeping a 30-year vow of chastity, along with the somewhat less onerous task of maintaining the sacred flame which burned in the temple of Vesta.

This faithful replica of Monti’s work is made in Staffordshire using over 90% natural Carrara marble - please see final image for an extreme close-up of the marble's actual colour and texture. Each copy is dry cast and then finished by hand, giving it both the look and feel of an original. A beautiful and weighty piece of art which will grace any home.
