Victorian Travelling Sextant

The Victorian Travelling sextant is presented in a handsome wooden box, which will keep all the mechanisms and glass parts safe from damage. A beautiful piece of nautical memorabilia.

Sextants were used for navigation in the golden days of seafaring, allowing seamen to measure the angle between two visible objects. The instrument would chiefly be used to determine the angle between a celestial object and the horizon - otherwise known as 'sighting' the object.
