For lovers of maritime history, the sextant is a wonderful example of nautical gadgetry. Sextants were used for navigation in the golden days of seafaring, allowing sailors to measure the angle between two visible objects. The instrument would chiefly be used to determine the angle between a celestial object and the horizon - otherwise known as 'sighting' the object. This metal sextant with moveable parts, based on a 1917 design, is presented in a leather box with a glass lid.
